(05/19/10) Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) Drill June 21 / 22 Delaware County ARES-RACES will participate in the county-wide SNS drill scheduled for June 21 and 22. The exercise will test the ability of state, county and municipal agencies to respond to a critical health emergency and deliver vaccines with which to immunize residents. The scenario this year is a medical response to a simulated anthrax outbreak. Delaware County ARES-RACES will support the drill by providing backup communications at four locations including the operations center at DCIU, the logistics delivery center at Fair Acres, a POD unit at Academy Park High School and the EOC in Lima. Communications will include primary and secondary voice channels and radio email via Winlink. (04/30/10) Field Day at Ridley Creek State Park - June 26 / 27 Delaware County ARES-RACES will again hold Field Day at Ridley Creek State Park on the weekend of June 26 / 27. Operations will be centered in Area 12, accessed from Sandy Flash Drive. The station will be a Class 2A operating on emergency power using battery arrays and a 5 KW gasoline generator. HF antennas will include a G5RV, NVIS 75-meter dipole and long-wire. Talk-in will be on the KA3TWG repeater on 446.925 (pl 173.8). For a layout of the site at Area 12, (click here). (03/31/10) ARES-RACES / Penn-Del ARC Joint Meeting May 4, 2010 The first Delaware County ARES-RACES meeting of 2010 will be a joint venture with the Penn-Del ARC on Tuesday evening, May 4th at 1930 hours. The meeting will be held at Maximillians Restaurant located at 3001 Naamans Creek Road in Boothwyn, PA. The meeting will include a program featuring an overview of ARES-RACES operations and will include a show and tell of new equipment provided by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Counter-Terrorism Task Force. (03/16/10) March of Dimes and MS Walks Scheduled for April 24/25 The two largest public service events, for which Delaware County ARES-RACES provides communications support, are scheduled for the same weekend this year. The March of Dimes Walk will take place at Ridley Creek State Park on Saturday, April 24 and the MS Walk will be held the day after on Sunday, April 25. We are anticipating another enjoyable and satisfying outing and need your participation. ARES-RACES volunteers will report at the staging area in the parking lot for Area 11 at 0800 hours. (01/23/10) Ham-in-a-Day Class Scheduled for Saturday, March 27 The next Ham-in-Day licensing course, sponsored by the Penn-Del Amateur Radio Club, is scheduled for Saturday, March 27th from 0830-1730. The course is an excellent way to break into the exciting Amateur Radio hobby. The class is taught by Hal Frantz, KA3TWG, who has a phenomenal success rate in licensing new Amateur Radio operators. The class will be held at Maximillians located at 3001 Naamans Creek Road in Boothwyn, PA. A $40 course fee includes instruction, morning refreshments and the license exam fee.
